A FLEMISH WALNUT, OLIVEWOOD AND EBONISED OYSTER-VENEERED CABINET-ON-STAND
Late 17th Century, possibly Antwerp
The rectangular moulded top above a pair of frieze-drawers and two panelled doors enclosing an interior of eight panelled drawers and eight secret drawers, around a central door with three Solomonic columns with ormolu Corinthian capitals, on pedestals forming a drawer surmounted by a broken pediment formed as a drawer, above a pair of lower drawers with a slide below, on a stand with a long frieze drawer above shaped aprons, on later spirally-turned elm legs joined by cross-banded stretchers, two lower drawers and a slide with geometric ebony inlay, on turned feet enclosing six small drawers above a chess-board chequered floor, the metalwork and locks replaced
64½ in. (164 cm.) high; 48¾ in. (124 cm.) wide; 20 in. (51 cm.) deep
Provenance
Probably Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham and 7th Earl of Winchilsea (d.1730), Nottingham House, London and by descent at Burley-on-the-Hill, Rutland until included in Knight, Frank and Rutley house sale, Burley-on-the-Hill, 20 May 1947, lot 212 (either withdrawn or unsold).
