A PAIR OF GEORGE I WALNUT AND SEAWEED-MARQUETRY SIDE CHAIRS
Attributed to the Roberts family
Each with a double-arched shaped rectangular padded back and seat covered in blue foliate damask, above a shaped apron inlaid with foliage, on square tapering cabriole legs with foliage panels and square pad feet with conforming inlay, the upholstery on the seat distressed, inscribed in pencil in 18th Century hand 'Underside' (2)

Almost certainly supplied to Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford (d.1741) for Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire, and by descent with the house until it was sold in 1894 to
Thomas, 2nd Baron Robartes and 6th Viscount Clifden (d.1930) and his son the 2nd Viscount (d.1966), by either of whom removed to Lanhydrock, Cornwall
Acquired by Colonel Norman Colville, M.C.
