Lot Essay

The bowfronted shape of this chest relates to a design published by Thomas Sheraton in The Appendix to the The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book of 1793, (plate XV). This design featured a pair of chests, one bowfronted and with a fitted top drawer, the other, to match, but of inverted form.
