A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SERPENTINE COMMODE
The canted moulded top above a slide and four graduated drawers, the stop-fluted angles headed by acanthus leaf, on later shaped bracket feet with sunk brass castors, two S-pattern keyhole escutcheons replaced and two possibly original, the locks replaced, one drawer bottom replaced
34¾ in. (88 cm.) high; 46½ in. (118 cm.) wide; 27 in. (68.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

An almost identical commode, also with spirally-ribbon-wrapped foliate flutes, was sold by Edward Hudson Esq. (the founder of Country Life), in these Rooms, 27 April 1937, lot 346 and another was sold anonymously, Sotheby's London, 4 July 1997, lot 50.
