Modelled as an industrial steam engine, with large automaton fly wheel and piston, driven by a large barrel housed in the base and wound through the side, the front ornamented with mock brickwork and furnaces, with silvered dials housed in drums for time and aneroid barometer, flanking a Réaumur thermometer, on rouge marble plinth and raised on gilt-brass feet, the single barrel timepiece movement with vertically positioned cylinder escapement and numbered 404 on the backplate, with blued steel hands, the case lacking rear cover and one finial; with mirrored back and brass framed glazed display cover with canted top, formerly with plinth
