A George III oak and mahogany longcase cloc, late 18th/early 19th century
The case with swan-neck pediment and ringed columns to the hood, short trunk door with lozenge inlay and flanked by three-quarter length fluted pilasters, on cross-banded plinth, lacking feet, the 12in. wide white dial with painted scene of a courting couple to the arch below signature John WENHAM. DEREHAM. (retouched), with raised gilt scroll spandrels to the Roman and Arabic chapter ring, subsidiary seconds ring and arch date aperture (all numerals retouched), with brass hands, falseplate stamped OSBORNE to the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement -- 81½in. (207cm.) high
