Guillaume Coustou the Elder produced the original Marly Horses between 1740 and 1745 to stand at the entrance to the riding school in Marly Park in Paris. They have since been moved to the entrance of the Champs Elysies. They later became the most popular of all French statuary and were copied throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
