A study for the figure on the right of the altarpiece of The Madonna and Child with Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian in the Church of S. Lorenzo in Mortara, G. Romano, Bernardino Lanino e il Cinquecento a Vercelli, Turin, 1986, p. 32, illustrated. The two saints in the picture are usually these protectors against the plague, which could date the picture to 1524, the year of a plague epidemic in Vercelli. That year Giovenone moved from Vercelli to Casalino to avoid the epidemic.
The posture of the saint differs slightly from drawing to picture, but the main difference is that the figure is complete in the drawing and cut in the picture.
