This attribution was confirmed by Mary Newcome Schleier on the basis of a photograph in a letter dated 19 January 1999. Dr. Newcome Schleier dates the sheet to the early 1610's and commented 'it is an outstanding example of what Strozzi was doing probably as early as 1610s and its landscape composition, small figures and nervous penwork show him looking at Lombard artists [..] This style (refered to by some scholars as a Parmigianesque style and by others as a Lombardesque style) was adopted by his student Giovanni Andrea de Ferrari as early as 1619'.
The minute handling of the pen is comparable to that of a group of drawings in the Palazzo Rosso in Genoa, P. Boccardo, Bernardo Strozzi, exhib. cat., Genoa, Palazzo Ducale, 1995, nos. 88-93.
