Lot Essay

A copy by Corneille after a drawing by Grimaldi in the Louvre, Paris. Other versions of the Grimaldi drawing are in the Louvre and in the British Museum, London, N. Turner, Roman Baroque Drawings, c. 1620 to c. 1700, London, 1999, no. 144(47). Grimaldi also etched the composition in reverse (Bartsch XIX, 46).
Michel Corneille engraved the composition as Annibale Carracci for the Recueil Jabach, a collection of prints after landscapes by the Carracci in Jabach's own collection.
