Of oval section, the medallions probably painted by John Pennington, the central and two outer vases of inverted pear-shaped form and with pierced domed covers, the two inner flanking vases of waisted form, each vase enriched in gilding and with gilt bullrushes and green foliage flanking medallions painted en grisaille with religious scenes, the central vase painted with a medallion of the Flight Into Egypt (restored through handles, restored rim chip), the flanking waisted vases with Saint Peter (restored through foot and one handle) and Saint John the Baptist, the small outer vases with The Good Samaritan (restored through both handles) and Christ and an Elder (one handle detached, cracked and restored rim chip)(other minor chips)

A pot-pourri vase of similar form is illustrated by Henry Sandon, Flight and Barr Worcester Porcelain 1783-1840 (London, 1978), p. 23, pl. 11.

John Pennington's most celebrated work was on the Duke of Clarence or 'Hope' service, sold in these Rooms on 24th June 1997, lot 65; 7th June 1976, lot 39; and 11th of May 1893, lots 104-165.
