Circa 1735, probably Ferdinando Maria Campani
Painted with Bellerophon leading Pegasus by the bridle, two female attendants seated nearby, before bushes and distant buildings and mountains, within a manganese line and ochre rim (minute rim chip at 4 o'clock, very slight flaking to rim)
9¾ in. (24.8 cm.) diam.

Bellerophon, falsely accused of making advances to the Queen of Argos, was sent by the King of Argos to Iobates to be killed. Iobates set Bellerophon a task he assumed he could not survive, the slaying of the monster Chimaera, but he unexpectedly carried out the task with the help of Pegasus.
