A Sceaux Biscuit group of Vulcan discovering Venus and Mars
Circa 1770, incised interlaced 'f, fait a Sceaux, the underside with indistinct incised marks
The angry god scantily draped and casting his net over his unfaithful wife, Mars standing to one side in a plumed helmet and full armour attempting to restrain him, flanked by two figures of Cupid, one holding a quiver of arrows, the other Vulcan's hammer, on a high rockwork base with two doves and Mars's sword and shield (restoration to Vulcan's right shoulder, drapery at back, net, Mars's arms and neck and some restoration to the edge of his cloak, pieces of his chiton and hilt of his sword lacking, some minor chipping and restoration to extremities) sold with a later giltwood circular fluted stand
