A Meissen (Augustus Rex) chinoiserie plate
Circa 1730, blue AR mark, Dreher's X for Rehschuh to footrim
Painted in the manner of J.G. Höroldt with Oriental figures on terraces surrounded by flowering plants and grasses, one group taking tea, another standing by smoking vessels and holding a fan, another seated beside a fence within four gilt quatrefoil Böttger-lustre panelled and gilt scroll cartouches flanked by iron-red strapwork and purple scrolls divided by indianische Blumen, the well with gilt flowerheads and scrolls and with four branches of indianische Blumen trailing towards the centre, the underside with three trailing flowering branches
9 in. (23 cm.) diam.
