Lot Essay

Vases of Münchner form were developed at Nymphenburg in 1822 by Friedrich von Gärtner (see lot 273). For an exhaustive discussion of Berlin Münchner vases see Winfried and Ilse Baer, ...auf Allerhöchsten Befehl..., Königsgeschenke aus der Königlichen Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin - KPM- (Berlin, 1983).

See the campana-shaped vase with similar decoration sold in these Rooms on 15th October 1990, lot 183, and see the pair of Kratervasen painted in a similar manner sold by Sotheby's on 9th July 1997, lot 186.
