Lot Essay

On 2nd August 1793 Queen Marie-Antoinette (1755-93) was sent to the Conciergerie. Eight weeks later she was arraigned before the Revolutionary Tribunal. Questioned for two days and nights she was sentenced to death and on the same day, 16th October 1793, she died by the guillotine.
