The dimensions of this coin are identical to those of the new smaller (27.3mm) diameter coins introduced 3 years later in 1997. The only reverse design of the regular 1994 large size 50 pence coins was of the Allied Invasion Force, in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings on D-Day (an example is included for comparison).
This remarkable coin was given in change in a post office in the Peterborough area of Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom. Believed unique in private hands.
