An English 'Mortuary' Backsword
Mid-17th Century
With straight blade double-edged at the point, cut with three fullers on each face, the central one pierced, and struck on each side of the forte with a crowned 'P', iron hilt comprising pierced guard chiselled in low relief with scrollwork and two portrait medallions of Charles I, slender bars incised with lines, globular pommel incised with foliage, and spirally grooved wooden grip (some pitting and discolouration throughout)
