A Composite Italian Half-Armour
Comprehensively mid-16th to early 17th Century
Of bright steel, comprising closed burgonet (adapted) engraved with triple lines and with two-piece skull, pivoted fall with face-guard (the latter replaced using old body-plates), bevor and two neck-plates at the front (rear ones missing), and pierced steel plume-holder, etched gorget of two plates, full arm defences including fingered gauntlets (not a pair, fingers replaced, one finger missing from left gauntlet, lames separated on right gauntlet), the pauldrons (each lacking a lame) etched and the vambraces with plain gilt borders, breast-plate with a lamination at the base and moveable gussets, embossed with two volutes and etched with later figure of the Virgin, back-plate engraved with radiating lines, and etched tassets of nine lames each, the main edges turned and roped, the etching all in the so-called 'Pisan' manner (some wear and pitting throughout, leathers missing)
