A WOOD MARQUETRY INLAY PIPECASE displaying the different patterns and techniques used in marquetry (age crack), unsigned, 21.5 cm.; two bamboo and iroe makie pipecases one with sprays of cherry blossom (small crack), unsigned, 22.5cm., the other with incised devil mask, signed with kao, 21.5cm.; two rattan pipecases (kiseruzutsu), one with mother-of-pearl and lacquer butterflies and a seal mark Ichizan, 22cm., the other with aogai inlay of lotus leaves and a dragonfly, 21.5cm.; a stagantler pipecase with a crane standing on a promontory beside a gnarled pine tree, inlaid eye pupils, seal mark Dai ; and a nunome lacquer pipecase on a negoro ground with Kanzan and Jittoki pointing towards the distant mountains, the rim with a key-fret pattern, unsigned, 22cm., all 19th century
