BETTE DAVIS NEEDLEPOINT PROCLAIMING 'WHATADUMP'
A needlepoint rendered in blue and white yarn reading Whatadump -- a gift given to Miss Davis that referred to one of her most famous lines from the 1949 Warner Bros. film, "Beyond the Forest." This expression became associated with her for the rest of her life and is still quoted today. She took particular relish in delivering it onstage, taking a drag from her ubiquitous cigarette, staring at the audience with a long pause before proclaiming, with perfect timing, "What a dump!"
