BETTE DAVIS DRESS WORN TO 'THE ARMY BALL'
1983
A cocktail dress that Bette Davis wore to 'The Army Ball,' a 1983 military gala where she was presented with the Distinguished Civilian Service Medal (the Defense Department's highest civilian award) for her founding of The Hollywood Canteen in the 1940s. The dress from that special evening, designed by Norma Kamali OMO and purchased from Neiman Marcus, is made of a red stretch knit and has has two separate red and black fabric attachments for the shoulder area though Miss Davis only used the red one that night. Included is a color photograph of the honoree wearing the dress, a program and a special matchbook with a message printed on the inside cover reading Please accept these matches with my very best wishes Roddy MacDowall.
