Incorporating T. Horsley's patent No. 2410 of October 1863 and T. Horsley 'LOADED' indicator patent No. 710 of March 1868, the tops of the standing-breeches mounted with curved shutters each of which shows 'LOADED' as the breech is closed on a cartridge, sidelever actions, the rebounding sidelocks with high-spurred dolphin hammers, best foliate-scroll engraving, well-figured stocks with butt-plates, the skeletal action-bars enclosing the bar-in-wood at the forend-knuckles, the Whitworth-steel chopper-lump barrels with game-ribs

The Horsley records confirm that gun No. 2393 was completed in 1877 and that gun No. 2945 was built as its companion in 1885. The guns were subsequently rebarrelled between 1896 and 1904 and it is likely that their conversion to ejector was effected at this time
