laid by the S.S. Great Eastern in 1873, the hessian bound 6-inch section with metal cuffs at each end engraved alternately ANGLO AMERICAN TELEGRAPH CO's CABLE LAID BY THE S.S. "GREAT EASTERN" JUNE 22ND 1873 RECOVERED BY S.S. "MINIA" JUNE 7TH 1903 LATITUDE 53° 17' N. LONGITUDE 34° 46' W DEPTH 1546 FATHOMS and TELEGRAPH CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE CO. LONDON ; and another sample of later cable with inscription for the same company, both in a wooden box with lid -- 2¼ x 13in. (5.5 x 33cm.)
