Lot Essay

This is one of a small group of glass (yellow, aquamarine, white) and chalcedony bottles, many of which bear correct and believable Qianlong reign marks, which are attributed to the Palace Workshops late in the Qianlong period. For quartz examples see H. Moss, Snuff Bottles of the Silica and Quartz Group, pl. 196; for an almost identical glass bottle in imperial yellow, see Chinese Snuff Bottle: The Edward Choate O'Dell Collection, Asia House Gallery, New York, 1982, Catalogue, no. 109
