A FINE SET OF WHITE JADE HOROLOGICAL PLAQUES

The whole conceived as an open blossom composed of twelve interlocking petal-shaped plaques, each well carved in low relief on one side with a flower of the twelve months within a plain border and surmounted by cloud scroll pierced with a small aperture, the plaque carved with a prunus sprig additionally carved with a two-character signature, Zi gang, the reverse of each petal carved with a rectangular panel enclosing four seal-script characters, each panel corresponding to a line of a poem, the center of the blossom comprising a moveable yinyang roundel surrounded by the flowers of the four seasons, and the reverse with four further panels inscribed with additional lines of poetry, the stone translucent and of even tone; together with an interchangeable spinach-green jade central medallion, Qianlong, also with a moveable yinyang roundel surrounded by the Eight Trigrams, a band of openwork floral scrolls incorporating four stylized characters and an outer border of ruyi heads, the reverse similarly carved but incised with characters of the twelve lunar branches, the stone of good green tone with faint black speckling--overall width of jade set 9 3/8 in. (23.8 cm.), width of spinach jade plaque 4 3/8 in. (11.2 cm.), each with fitted hardwood box (12)
