While this small gold piece says POTOSI on the reverse, it is very crudely made, and is quite probably a jeweller's token or souvenir medallion. It should be noted, however, that it is very similar to the Quarter-Sol coinage of 1852 (KM.111) which was struck in silver for general circulation.
