Lot Essay

The Glenfinlas was one of the Glen Line's racing tea steamers of the type which took the lucrative China tea trade away from the sailing clippers after 1870. She was built for her first owner A.C.Gow later to be incorporated into McGregor, Gow & Co. in 1874 and owned until 1891 when she was sold to W.J.Jobling and renamed Elfsborg. Her best recorded passage was carrying the new season's tea from Woosung to London in forty-two days in 1878. She was listed as foundered in 1895
