Lot Essay

For a circular tiered Cantonese clock similar to the present lot but further embellished and decorated, cf. the Exhibition of Tributes from Guangdong to the Qing Court, Catalogue, no. 82. Cantonese clocks of the eighteenth century were sophisticated pieces, and were made to a very high standard of craftsmanship.

The clock movement of the present lot has been professionally overhauled and restored to full working condition but will require professional setting to become fully operational
