A RARE MASSIVE CARVED AND MOULDED LONGQUAN CELADON VASE
15TH CENTURY

The ovoid body encircled by a raised rib dividing a broad frieze of peony meander on the shoulder from bands of foliate scroll and slender petals below, the tall neck encircled by stiff, upright leaves rising towards a band of concentric ribs below the flared rim, all under a pale olive-green glaze (firing cracks)--26¾in. (68cm.) high

Other similar examples of this large size have be published in Sekai Toji Zenshu, vol. 14, pl. 231; Tokyo National Museum, Catalogue, no. 388; and Gompertz, Chinese Celadon Wares, pl. 90, from the Percival David Foundation, dated to 1454 A.D.
