A FINE PAIR OF GILT-DECORATED BLUE-GLAZED BOTTLE VASES
GUANGXU SIX-CHARACTER MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD

The vases glazed in a rich deep blue tone, the globular body and waisted neck gilt with scattered medallions containing flowers, fruit, birds, animals and other auspicious emblems, the shoulder with lotus and between shou characters within single line bands, the foot with a border of stylized stiff lappets, the everted rim gilt above a further band of overlapping pendent ruyi (gilding rubbed in places)--15 3/8in. A Guangxu vase of this design in the Hong Kong Museum of Art was included in the Special Exhibition, The Wonders of the Potter's Palette, Catalogue, 1984, no. 128; another from the Simon Kwan Collection was included in the Chinese University of Hong Kong Exhibition of Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing, Catalogue, 1983, no. 126
