A RARE MASSIVE BLUE AND WHITE DATED DISH
ENCIRCLED QIANLONG FOUR-CHARACTER MARK, QIANLONG BINGWU, CORRESPONDING TO A.D. 1786 AND OF THE PERIOD
The rounded sides rising to a slightly flaring rim, the exterior painted with the Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang, above a stylised lotus scroll dividing the characters gao shan chang shui, 'high mountains, long rivers', within four circular ruyi panels, above a band of lotus panels around the foot and a band of ruyi before stiff leaves around the rim, the rim of the interior similar, and with a stylised shou character painted in the medallion, the surface of the dish with a characteristic orange peel texture (inner foot rim chipped)--16¾in. (42.5cm.) diam.
