A PARCEL-GILT BRONZE CENSER
LATE MING DYNASTY, SIGNED HU WENMING

Cast around the bombe sides with dragons and fabulous beasts amidst fire scrolls and breaking waves, between a band of stylized phoenix confronted over a ruyi-head encircling the spreading foot and a band of paired phoenix with flaming pearls below the slightly everted rim, all on a finely punched ground, the sides set with animal-mask handles, the base with a gilt panel inscribed Yunjian Hu Wenming zhi (made by Hu Wenming of Yunjian)--6¼in. (15.8 cm.) wide
