A VERY RARE SHAANXI PAINTED STONE DOOR LINTEL
EASTERN HAN DYNASTY

The rectangular panel carved in low relief with three horse drawn chariots behind to bannermen on horseback approaching a pair of figures in reverence, surrounded by a sinous knobed vine frieze interspersed with various animals including a fox, a duck, an owl, a monkey and a deer, traces of pigment remaining (broken in two places, repaired)--62 x 15 in. (158 x 38 cm.)

Panels of this type are quiet rare outside of China.
