The steep flared sides with lobed rim and indented corners tapering towards the foot, covered overall in a finely-crackled ash-grey glaze extending across the base, the crackle of dark grey tone, the base with four spur-marks revealing the iron-grey ware (small glaze chip to rim edge)--2¾in. Lot Essay

Although cups of this shape appear to be rare, there are several known examples. Compare the one in the Percival David Foundation illustrated by Hobson, Chinese Porcelain in the David Foundation, pl. XXIX (top right), catalogue no. 68; one from the Simon Kwan collection was included in the Min Chiu Society Thirtieth Anniversary Exhibition, 1990, Catalogue, no. 111; the last from the Edward T.
