The finely and thinly potted bowls with flaring sides and stepped everted rims, each delicately painted with butterflies among lush budding crab-apple branches guoqinaghua spilling over the sides into the interior--4 3/4in. (9.6cm.) diam. (2)

Lot Essay

This design is a continuation of the so-called 'birthday' series, associated with wares bearing patterns reputedly made for the Kangxi Emperor's sixtieth birthday.
