A RARE CELADON-GROUND GILT-DECORATED CYLINDRICAL JAR AND COVER
IRON-RED JIAQING SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

Well painted around the body in gilt with two five-clawed dragons striding in mutual pursuit of flaming pearls amid bats in flight and scrolling clouds, all between two pairs of borders, one of ascending bats alternating with ruyi-heads, the other of lotus alternating with leafy peach sprigs, with further key-pattern bands encircling the neck and foot, the domed cover similarly decorated and with a lotus bud finial, the base and interiors turquoise-glazed (gilding rubbed in places, star glaze crack to vase interior)--13in. (33cm.) high
