The two-storey building on the right across the river is the English Consulate, built in 1849 in an area of over one hundred acres. Next to it is the Shanghai Custom House with the premises of Jardine Matheson and Co. to it's left. The next large building is the three-storeyed premises of Augustine Heard and Co. which also served as the Russian Consulate.
