The Gronvold Archive of China, Provinces and Japanese Occupation Issues The following twelve lots are from the Harkon Gronvold collection. Mr. Gronvold was a Norwegian who worked in the Chinese Maritime Customs from 1926-51. Since Norway was neutral during the war, he was never interned by the Japanese Occupying forces, and being in Tientsin, North China during that period he was able to build up a fascinating collection of these issues.
cover 1933 (Aug.- Nov.) pair of XU5 (both with faults including creasing and tears) originating in England and addressed to "H.Gronvold/Tide Surveyors Office/Shanghai"; both bear Officially Sealed labels (14) in two shades and all cancelled by boxed "RECEIVED BROKEN AND/OFFICIALLY RESEALED" h.s. (lettering sans-serif). An interesting pair.
