WEN ZHENGMING (1470-1559)
Scholars Meeting: The Study By Old Trees
Hanging scroll, ink on paper, 52.4 x 31.3 cm. (20 5/8 x 12 5/16in.)
Written on the top of the paintings with a Ci poem and inscribed: I was sick at home and was thinking of Wang Luzhi (Wang Guxiang 1501-1568). I composed this Ci and sent it to him. That was on the eighth day of the sixth month of wuzi year (1528). Now, seven years have passed by and Wang has recently returned from his previous duties. He showed me my poem, which he found in his suitcase. I had completely forgotten about it. I picked up a little painting which I painted years ago, and copied the poem again onto it for him."

Dated: the fourteenth day of the fourth month of jiawu year, in Jiajing era (1534)
