Further details
In the traditional classification of jadeite, stones of an exceptionally vivid green hue and translucency are described as Sianyang lu, or the green recalling the fresh sunlight. These have always been exceptionally rare. Similarly, rubies of over 20 carats have always been hardly seen. In the 16th century the great gem dealer Tavenier wrote: "when a ruby is of ver five carats and of fine quality, it is paid whatever is asked of it". The occurence of these two rarest and most desirable of gems, matched in a pair for size, colour and transparency, makes these earclips truly magnificent
