cover 1878 envelope "pr. Customs Courrier" to Shanghai bearing 5 ca. pair (blunted or trimmed perfs. at top) and single (variety double row of blind vertical perfs.), cancelled by "I.G. OF CUSTOMS/PEKING/OCT. 5 78" c.d.s. in blue, "CUSTOMS/SHANGHAI/OCT.12 78" c.d.s. in red, showing on reverse "SHANGHAE LOCAL POST" c.d.s. (OCT 12 78) in blue, also has wax seal of Peruvian Legation in China. Paying three times the inland rate of 5 candarins, this is one of the most important and famous of the Large Dragon covers.
