The arched bombé cartonnier fitted with a clock crested by a figural surmount of two cherubs and a hound, the conforming gilt-tooled leather and eight drawers fitted with a mechanical locking device within the shaped rectangular bureau plat, the leather writing surface above a scrolling-form frieze fitted with a single drawer opposed by a sham drawer, the cabriole legs headed by female busts above foliate-cast appliques ending in lion's paw sabots

Lot Essay

The Boudet firm, located at 43, boulevard des Capucines in 1886, was an important Parisian firm specializing in furniture and objects. The firm was subsequently situated at 8, place Vendome, under the name Boudet Frères et Cie, from 1908 until World War I. Cited in the Almanach du Commerce in 1895 are two other references to the Boudet name, most likely members of the same family. A closely related model to this lot is illustrated in Le Mobilier Francais du XIX siècle D. Ledoux-Lebard pp. 95
