A CONTEMPORARY STONEWARE BOWL, 20TH CENTURY, SHOJI HAMADA (1894-1978), the deep, cylindrical bowl set on a high ring foot with slightly rippled, thick side walls, glazed a thick greenish-black above the foot and covered above and on the interior with a glaze of purplish grey, in fitted wood box inscribed on the lid Mei zangetsu "Moon in daytime" Showa inu doshi haru Kanzan mei " Showa year of dog, spring, named 'Mei zangetsu' by Kanzan" Ningen kokuho shoji yaki "Living national treasure potter Shoji", and on the underside of the lid Kake awase yu chawan Shoji "tea bowl by Shoji of mixed glazes", sealed Shoji--5 1/8 in. diam.
