A WOOD AND PAINTED WOOD FIGURE OF JIZO, MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), standing on a stepped lotus platform and rockwork base holding in the left hand a gilded sacred jewel and holding the right hand as if to support a staff, now missing, the figure draped in robes falling in even pleats decorated in polychrome and gilt with brocade patterns, the face carved in a meditative expression with downcast eyes below fine, arched brows, the high forehead inlaid with a glass urna and the neck carved with a triple fold--48 in. high including base
