THE MCLENDON COLLECTION OF CYLINDER AND STAMP SEALS
The cylinder and stamps seals in the McLendon Collection were originally assembled by the Marcopoli family beginning in the late 19th century. The Marcopoli were the hereditary Italian consuls in Aleppo, Syria, and as a result, this famous collection was particularly strong in material from that region. The cylinder seals were originally catalogued by Beatrice Teissier and all were illustrated in Ancient Cylinder Seals from the Marcopoli Collection, Berkeley, 1984. The entire collection was illustrated in Christie's sale of Antiquities, 14 June 1993.
