The original marble sculpture is located at the Museo Capitoline in Rome and is first recorded as part of Cardinal Albani's collection in 1733. Prior to this it was reputedly uncovered in the excavation of Hadrian's villa. (Cf. F. Haskell and N. Penny Taste and the Antique Yale University Press, 1981 p. 143)
