A FOUR-CASE LACQUER INRO
edo-meiji periods (mid-late 19th century), signed shojosai rosho saku and with kakihan

The large inro of rounded rectangular shape designed in iro-e takamaki-e, hiramaki-e and togidashi with a scene of two ladies spying on lovers through a telescope, a round reserve on the reverse revealing the image of the amorous couple as seen through the glass, lacquered in iro-e togidashi, set above gold and silver takamaki-e waves against a gold ground sprinkled with nashiji, interior cases nashiji; fitted with a glass bead ojime and a lacquered netsuke fashioned as a ripe persimmon on a leafy stem--4½in. (10cm.) high
