Of rectangular shape with rounded edges fitted with a removable rectangular brush tray, inkstone and metal mizuire chased and gilded with chrysanthemums; decorated on the interior in gold and silver hiramaki-e, togidashi and kirigane on a nashiji ground with butterflies and peonies by a fence, under the lid, and with plum and irises in the the lower portion, the area below the implement tray and inkstone frame roiro with sparse nashiji; the lid patterned with two poem cards of gold and silver togidashi and kirigane decorated in gold hiramaki-e with birds, insects and grasses, an inkstone and brush in gold takamaki-e, cherry boughs of gold, red and silver togidashi and raised bamboo blind with a red takamaki-e lacquer cord and gold and black togidashi bindings, the ground roiro and nashiji matching the lower interior and sides--9 1/8 x 8 3/8 x 1¾in.
