Cast in the style of a European chalice with silver handles of curved flower stems with flower terminals, silver rims and silver bands, lacquered on the exterior in gold and silver hiramaki-e, togidashi and hirame on a roiro ground with phoenixes and paulownia, chrysanthemums, rocks and a stream, lacquered on the stem foot with butterflies, lotus sprays and stylized blossoms in shaped reserves, the underlip decorated in gold and black togidashi with floral diaperwork, the interior of the cup and the base nashiji, marked on the base as above in gold Roman print beside the manufacturer's fan emblem enclosing the circled letter 's'--8in. (20.3cm.) high
